Itinerary Details

A little more central in the Commonwealth, you can find horsepower in a variety of forms, on a test track, on horseback, or even in the form of art! Families or friendly weekend getaways might include test driving Corvettes, trail riding on horseback, exploring caves and watching wildlife, or maybe just easy strolls through back country roads admiring art work! Take a look at this three day itinerary and fine-tune your favorite parts!

DAY 1

  • Just south of Bowling Green, Kentucky, you’ll come across the small town of Franklin in Simpson County. This small town has some BIG artwork thanks to a fun welding class project! Cruise along the sculpture trail and be sure to stop when you get to the literal FORK in the road!
  • After the Simpson County sculpture cruise, head up to Bowling Green for some classic American horsepower, the Corvette!
  • In Warren County, you can find major horsepower at the National Corvette Museum, NCM Motorsports park, and the GM Corvette assembly plant!
  • Not to mention other attractions, such as Beech Bend Amusement Park, Lost River Cave, and a vibrant downtown with performing arts center!
  • Day 1 and 2 is “geared for fun” in Bowling Green and Simpson County!

DAY 2 & 3

  • Slightly Northeast of Bowling Green is Mammoth Cave National Park. This park is spread throughout multiple counties including Edmondson and Hart County!
  • You’ll find guided trail riding opportunities in the Mammoth Cave National Park area in Hart County.
  • Spend the next two days riding the trails, exploring the cave system, and maybe even petting a kangaroo! Yes, you read that right!
  • The Kentucky Down Under Adventure Zoo is a family favorite with lots of furry and fun creatures to discover! Hart County also features the Dutch Country Safari park, complete with petting zoo, train rides, and more!
  • Mammoth Cave National Park has park two levels – 52,830 acres of reclaimed hardwood forest and winding waterways, and below it, the longest known cave system in the world, surveyed at 420 miles to date! So while you might start with horses, you’ll stay for the exploration!
  • Enjoy some water too in this part of the Commonwealth.
  • Nolin Lake can be found in Edmonson County. This 5,800 acre lake borders Mammoth Cave National Park, which allows for scenic views similar to taking a Sunday drive.
  • Make plans to camp at Mammoth Cave or rent a short term rental near the park during this leg of the journey!

There’s not a lot of drive time needed for this itinerary, which allows for families and friends to spend more time exploring the Horsepower of Central Kentucky! Don’t delay, start planning your horsepower getaway to Central Kentucky today!
